Involuntary response
A response that occurs automatically without conscious control.
Nucleus (of a neurone)
The control center of the cell; its function is to control the cell's activities.
Neurone
A nerve cell that transmits electrical impulses.
Nervous system
The system in the body that contains neurones.
Heterozygous
When the pair of alleles are different.
Phenotype
Physical characteristics of an organism.
Compound
A substance formed when two or more elements are chemically bonded together.
Mixture
A combination of two or more substances that are physically combined, but not chemically bonded.
Amplitude
The distance from the midpoint to the crest (or trough) of a wave.
Wavelength
The distance between two successive crests (or troughs) of a wave.
Electromagnetic spectrum
Electromagnetic waves arranged in order of increasing frequency.
