Bonds

Certificates that promised the government would pay the holder back with interest, this was marketed as something that you needed to buy to help the U.S. win the war

Rationing

Limiting the amount of items a family can buy. There were coupon books sent to each house and that is the only amount of stuff you can buy

Victory Gardens

Plant your own garden at home or in your community so that you don’t need to buy produce from the store and the soldiers can eat instead

Salvage for Victory

Volunteers collected paper, rubber and more so that it can be turned into armaments (military weapon)

War Productions Board

This was created to convert factories to military production, gave money to factories to start making war supplies. Set limits on the amount of non-military things a factory could produce.

National War labor board

Strikes would hurt the war effort so this board was supposed to discourage union leaders from calling strikes the “No-strike pledge”. Union leaders agreed to this because they believed in FDR.

Office of Price Administration

Set price ceilings on non-agricultural items and implemented price control on non-agricultural items and rent

Office of censorship

Censored soldiers letters so that no one back home could accidently let a secret slip near a supposed spy

Office of Civilian Defense

Contribute “an hour a day for the U.S.A” in volunteer hours like first aid so that if there is trouble people can help save others

Office of war information

Established to control the information given to the news sources so that not everything got leaked to the U.S.
