Liberation Psychology
The therapist raises the client’s critical and cultural consciousness to have it as a source of power, healing, and liberation. The therapist connects with the client through radical humility, accompaniment, and by fomenting psychospiritual development and activism
Intergenerational Family Therapy
The therapist must ensure that they work on and maintain their own level of differentiation as they interact with the client to act as a non-anxious presence. This therapy is overall process-oriented and the therapist assumes a role of the expert
Structural Family Therapy
The therapist “joins” the family system and accommodates to it’s style. The therapist is softer and may relate themselves to relate to family. Through therapeutic spontaneity, they flow naturally with authenticity and do whatever it takes to make change happen
CBT
The therapist is directive and assumes a “teaching” position with the family, acting as both educator and expert. A contemporary technique of this therapy is the use of empathy to build rapport
Mindfulness Therapy
The therapist in this approach takes a non-directive approach as they guide clients through exercises to help them practice being present and practicing acceptance of emotions and thoughts
Narrative Therapy
The therapist meets the person who they are apart from their problem and asks about what they do during the day, their hobbies, and other interests. The therapist has unwavering hope and an intense curiosity as they navigate helping their client tell their preferred story.
Feminist Family Therapy
The therapist acts through an egalitarian perspective, working towards de-pathologizing women’s lives and experiences and valuing their perspectives, experiences, and process of being some.
