Contingencies in the natural environment should be
arranged to maintain the taught behaviors
Techniques to promote maintenance in natural settings
Educating significant others, Self-monitoring, Contingency priming
Educating significant others
can be taught behavioral techniques used during speech-language sessions to help promote generalization, Home programs/homework can be provided
Guidelines for Educating Significant Others
Select people willing to participate, Provide adequate training, written instructions, significant others involved in development of home program, Make record keeping simple, Provide feedback, Keep in touch
Self-monitoring
AKA self management; Involves teaching client to observe own behavior + take data accordingly/Initially, teach this skill in clinical setting + then transfer it to more natural settings
Contingency priming
teaching child to ask for reinforcement for engaging in target behavior
Follow-up/Booster treatment
although behaviors may have appeared to be generalized/maintained, client may require booster treatment sessions; probe periodically post treatment to be sure/ treatment can reestablish/+ behavior performance
