Somatic Cells
Cells of the body that contain a normal number of chromosomes.
Gametes
Haploid cells and sex cells.
Meiosis II Result
A diploid cell becomes four haploid cells.
Spermatogenesis
Meiosis in males.
Oogenesis
Meiosis in females.
Prophase I
The largest and most complex phase of meiosis.
Prophase I
The phase where chromosomes condense.
Chiasmata
The location where crossing over takes place.
Sister Chromatids
Formed when two homologous chromosomes come together.
Metaphase
The phase where chromosomes line up across the cell.
Anaphase
The phase where chromosomes separate and spindle fibers pull them apart.
Telophase
The phase where the nuclear membrane forms around each cluster of chromosomes.
Crossing Over
Segments of non-sister chromatids break and reattach to the other chromatid.
Meiosis Steps
Prophase I, Metaphase I, Anaphase I, Telophase I, Prophase II, Metaphase II, Anaphase II, Telophase II.
