Colonialism
The practice of one country directly ruling and developing trade in a foreign territory for its own benefit.
Cultural Diffusion
The process by which ideas, traits, or customs spread from one culture or group to another over time and space (examples include languages and religions).
Free Enterprise
A system in which privately owned businesses create goods and services, also called a market economy or capitalism.
Gross Domestic Product (GDP)
The total value of goods and services produced within a country in a given year.
Immigration
A permanent move of a person to a different country.
Life Expectancy
Average age to which a person in a given population can expect to live.
Literacy Rate
The percentage of people who can read and write.
Natural Resources
A useful material that is found in nature such as water, wood, coal, or oil.
