Terrestrial Biomes
Areas of land sharing similar climate, topographic and soil conditions, and thus the same basic types of biological communities.
Tropical Rainforest
Humid regions in the tropics that support one of the most complex and biologically rich biomes, with ample rainfall and uniform temperatures.
Cloud Forest
High mountains where fog and mist keep vegetation continually wet, with annual rainfall exceeding 200 cm.
Deforestation
The large-scale removal of trees from forests, particularly in tropical rainforests, threatening biodiversity.
Savanna
Grasslands with sparse tree cover, characterized by a dry season prone to fires and diverse large animal species.
Desert
Biomes characterized by low moisture levels, extreme temperature fluctuations, and adaptations in flora and fauna to conserve water.
Temperate Grasslands
Communities of grasses and seasonal herbaceous flowering plants with inadequate rainfall for trees.
Temperate Shrubland
A smaller biome with evergreen shrubs and small trees, characterized by warm and dry summers and cool moist winters.
Boreal Forest
A biome dominated by coniferous forests, found in the northern latitudes with cold temperatures and a short growing season.
Tundra
A treeless landscape that occurs at high latitudes or on mountaintops, characterized by low temperatures and permafrost.
