Validity
The extent to which a test measures what it claims to measure.
Leadership Scale
A measure intended to assess the leadership qualities of individuals such as government officials.
Face Validity
The degree to which a test appears to measure what it claims to the test taker.
Content Validity
Judgment on how well a test samples the behavior the test was designed to measure.
Criterion-Related Validity
The extent to which a test correlates with a criterion or standard against which it is compared.
Predictive Validity
How accurately scores on a test predict outcomes or behaviors measured by a criterion.
Concurrent Validity
How accurately scores on a test estimate an individual’s present standing on a criterion.
Validity Coefficient
A correlation coefficient that measures the strength of the relation between test scores and scores on a criterion.
Incremental Validity
The value added by using a test above and beyond other predictors.
Construct Validity
The extent to which a test measures a theoretical construct or trait.
Test Bias
Any factor in a test preventing accurate measurement, often due to systematic error.
Test Fairness
The quality of a test being free from bias that leads to unfair discrimination.
Content Validity Ratio (CVR)
A formula used to assess the validity of items in a test based on panelists' judgments.
Divergent Validity
A type of construct validity demonstrated when a test correlates poorly with other unrelated constructs.
Convergent Validity
A type of construct validity that shows a test correlates well with other tests measuring the same or similar constructs.
