What is an element?
A pure substance made of only one type of atom.
Define a compound.
A substance made of two or more different elements chemically combined.
What is an atom?
The smallest particle of an element that keeps its properties.
What happens during melting?
Solid changes to liquid as particles gain energy.
What is a suspension?
A mixture where particles settle out over time.
How does electricity travel through conductors?
Conductors are materials that allow electricity to flow, such as metals and water.
What causes a solar eclipse?
The Moon blocks the Sun from Earth.
What is a nebula?
A cloud of gas and dust where stars form.
Describe the life cycle of a high mass star.
Nebula → massive star → supernova → neutron star or black hole.
What is mutualism in symbiosis?
A relationship where both organisms benefit.
What are the three types of biodiversity?
Genetic, species, and ecosystem biodiversity.
What role do decomposers play in the ecosystem?
They recycle nutrients back into the soil.
What is the carbon cycle?
The movement of carbon through living and non-living things.
What is photosynthesis?
The process by which plants use sunlight to make glucose and oxygen.
How does deforestation impact the carbon cycle?
Fewer trees result in more CO₂ in the atmosphere.
What is biomagnification?
The increase of toxins up the food chain.
