Micro-Nutritional Deficiencies
Happen when the body lacks essential vitamins and minerals for proper growth and development.
Vitamin A
Promotes good eyesight, especially in low light.
Vitamin B
Keeps body cells healthy and organs functioning properly; good for the brain and nervous system.
Vitamin C and D
Keep the immune system healthy and strong; also makes skin and hair glow.
Vitamin K
Makes the blood clot when wounded; prevents excessive bleeding.
Calcium
Helps you to have strong bones and teeth.
Iron
Essential for the formation of red blood cells (hemoglobin); helps carry oxygen in the body.
Iodine
Essential for diet; helps control growth and metabolism.
Vitamin A Deficiency (VAD)
May cause night blindness which prevents seeing in the dark.
Beriberi
A condition caused by vitamin B deficiency affecting various parts of the body.
Scurvy
Caused by vitamin C deficiency; symptoms include loose teeth, tiredness, and bleeding gums.
Rickets
Caused by vitamin D deficiency; weakens and softens bones.
Osteoporosis
Resulting from calcium deficiency; makes bones weak and brittle.
Anemia
Caused by iron deficiency; characterized by weakness and extreme tiredness.
Goiter
Caused by iodine deficiency; characterized by swelling of the thyroid gland in the neck.
Protein-Energy Malnutrition (PEM)
Condition resulting from a deficiency of dietary protein and/or total calories.
Obesity
A nutritional condition where a person has an excessive amount of fat stored in the body.
Overweight
It is a nutritional condition in which a person weighs more than the normal weight to be considered as healthy.
