Instructed patient to void upon awakening and to discard urine

Noted the time and date on the specimen label for first urination and placed it on the container

Instructed patient to collect all urine voided for the next 24 hours

Instructed patient to refrigerate the specimen throughout the collection period if required (per scenario). Specimen placed in refrigerator or in chest placed in the bathtub

Instructed patient to collect urine prior to bowel movement not after

Instructed patient to drink a normal amount of fluid unless directed otherwise
