Cat blood draw
Scruff neck and put onto side
Hold leg and tail in other hand and put pressure on leg (lil chop)
(When vax- Scruff neck with right hand cross arms and grab hind leg with left hand per CB)
Dog blood draw for saphenous vein(back leg)
Arm under belly
Other arm around leg(both holding off)
Blood draw for cephalic vein (front legs)
Restrain in sitting position or laying position with one arm under neck for dogs or scruffing for cats
Use arm across body to grab front arm by the elbow
Position hand towards center of pets body on the arm and roll the vein to the top of the leg
Blood draw for jugular veins (neck)
Position animal in sitting position
Hold muzzle of animal with either one hand or two hands and position animals head pointing upwards
If using only one hand, use other hand to restrain legs down
(If pet has a collar on make sure the collar is held up in the hand holding the pets muzzle)
Sub Q fluids
Extra hydration and electrolytes by inj of fluid under skin
Tent and poke bevel up where P has most loose skin
Bag goes by 100s

Make sure appt. was okay'd by a doctor

Give inj. subcutaneously either in flanks (hip area) or shoulders

Check weight
On alphatrack check if on right species and that code matches the strip bottle
Poke ear vein around edge of ear or draw blood from back leg using 1cc syringe to get one drop of blood
Once blood is obtained put the strip in the alphatrak and wait until blood droplet is pictured on the machine
Once you see the blood picture, place the black tip of the alphatrak strip into the blood drop until the machine starts counting down
Take BG results to doctor to determine if we are changing insulin dose (and next rechk)

Grab machine (in black bag on shelf)
Find the cuff size that best fits the pet's tail, forearm or hindpaw
For cats we usually use the base of the tail in a laying position and for dogs the forearm or hindfoot is best (want the spot most closely aligned with the heart)
Set blood pressure machine to the setting of the species and placement you chose by clicking the right black button on top until it reads the correct info
Tighten cuff around desired area as tight as you can get it and make sure cord is securely attached to blood pressure machine at the top
Record cuff size used and location placed on paper you are taking the readings on
Pump the bulb between readings(one or two good quick squeezes usually)
Wait until readings come up on machine and write them down exactly as seen
Repeat for 5 readings
Find average of values
Type results in lab section- add- under blood pressure
Make sure to notate cuff size and info at bottom of lab

In a syringe draw up 0.5ml of saline and then 0.1ml of the urine
Mix contents of syringe and then run like normal Urinalysis
