The first World Cup was hosted in 1930 in Uruguay. Uruguay defeated Argentina, and England was not in it due to being removed from FIFA. 


Issues came up on how FIFA chose the countries, being controversial on what political powers they were supporting. 


The World Cup had scandals like the 1934 World Cup that was hosted in Italy. There was a lot of controversy due to bribing officials. Mussolini played a big role in ensuring Italy won.
