The Treaty of Versailles-

  1. Big 3 Meet - After the war ended, Germany’s fate was to be decide by “The Big Three”- Russia, USA and Britain.

  2. Deciding Terms - Big 3 meet to decide the terms of the Treaty that was to be signed by Germany. If they did not sign it, they would return to a state of war.

  3. Blame game - German’s were forced to accept full blame for the outbreak of WW1.

4. Colonies - All German colonies were to be seized and land returned to Poland. 13% of German lands would be lost.

5. 6.6 billion in reparations to other countries.

  1. Army losses - German army reduced to max 100,000 soldiers and no airforce.

Problems with the Treaty of Versailles

  1. War Guilt - Germans unhappy at having to accept full blame for the War.

  2. Resent Reparations - Germany resented paying reparations when their own economy was in such a state from the War.

  3. Worried for their country - Germans felt that with reductions to their army and weapons they were unable to protect their country should they be attacked.

  4. Loss of ID - Many people who lived in areas that had been seized from Germany felt their identity had been taken as they were no longer part of Germany.

  5. Saahr coalfields - Losing the Saahr coalfields took away Germany’s ability to rebuild their economy.

  6. National pride - Being forced to sign a Treaty they weren’t happy with impacted the nations pride.

Germany at the end of WW1

1.American Dream - America joined the war bringing fresh troops and supplies to Germany’s enemies weaking German morale.

2.Desertion - many German soldiers surrendered their positions at the front.

3.Mutiny - Sailors in Naval bases refused to obey orders. This and took over the ships from their officers.

  1.  Tired - By summer 1918 the German public were exhausted physically and emotionally.

  2. British blockade - There were severe food & fuel shortages because because British blockade.

  3. Flu - A flu epidemic was killing thousands of people.
