What was difficult about the increase in agricultural productivity?

Much of the land being farmed was not fertile enough an the lack of scientific measures such as fertiliser, selective breeding and crop rotation

What was there more incentive to do?

Turn over arable land to sheep farming, as cloth demand grew

What encouraged enclosure?

Sheep farming required less labourers as less were needed for looking after crops

When was there a dramatic rise in prices?

1540s, prices 37% higher than in 1508

W were wars against Scot and France financed?

The gvmt’s of H and E debased the coinage

What happened to peasants?

Lots found themselves in poverty as wages did not increase with price. Standards of livings fe and half f population couldn’t support themselves
