Visual Acuity Measurement
A diagnostic test to measure the sharpness of vision.
Direct and Indirect Ophthalmoscopy
Diagnostic procedures used to detect pallor and retinal detachment.
Slit Lamp
A diagnostic tool useful for identifying lesions but not particularly beneficial for retinal detachment assessment.
Macula
The central area of the retina; its involvement impacts retinal detachment treatment timelines.
Cycloplegic Eye Drops
Eye drops used post-retinal detachment procedure.
Anti-infective Eye Drops
Eye drops routinely used post-retinal detachment procedure to prevent infection.
Photophobia
Discomfort or sensitivity to light, managed with dark glasses after eye patch removal.
Glaucoma
A group of disorders characterized by increased IOP, optic nerve atrophy, and loss of peripheral vision.
Intraocular Pressure (IOP)
The fluid pressure inside the eye; elevated in glaucoma.
Primary Open Angle Glaucoma (POAG)
The most common type of glaucoma, characterized by slow progression and decreased outflow of aqueous humor.
Aqueous Humor
Fluid in the eye; its obstructed outflow contributes to increased IOP in glaucoma.
Tonometry
A diagnostic test used to measure IOP.
Beta Blockers (for glaucoma)
Medications used to lower IOP; require monitoring of heart rate due to systemic effects.
Miotics
Medications that constrict the pupil, drawing the iris away from the cornea to allow for drainage.
Canal of Schlemm
The structure which meiotics assist with drawing the iris away from the cornea, allowing aqueous humor to drain out.
