Messy – frantic, usually talks with fast pace

Dirty – complicit in the ‘murder’ of Adam

Dark purple hoodie

Dark purple – symbolises mystery and confusion – as a narrator of the play Mark tells Jan (and the audience) what is going on in the rest of the play, but as we only see half the conversation, through the Mark’s disbelief, he creates a sense of confusion and makes the play more mysterious and suspenseful

Black muddy trousers and school shirt

Matching Jan, Lou and Brian – shows they are part of the gang and lower status

Mud – shows they have been messing about in the woods – bullying Adam – hinting at their complicity in what they think is his death

Brown boots with a bloodstain around the edges

Brown – Mud
Shows their responsibility in what happened to Adam and a reminder of the guilt they end up feeling as a result
