After WW2, US and USSR were not allies anymore because they both believed the opposing side was a threat to the national security.
NATO was created to protect Western Europe from USSR and provide safety against communism aggression.

Joseph McCarthy led a hunt for communist spies in U.S. Government. These investigations were unconstitutional and violated constitutional rights of lots of people. Caused people to lose their jobs, be falsely accused, and be executed.
What is Truman Doctrine?
US would give military and economic help to any country that was weak to stop the spread of communism. US gave $400 million to Greece and Turkey
What’s the similarity between Truman Doctrine and McCarthysim?
both talked about that American security depended on US governments successful resistance to communism. both were filled with fear of communism and its threat to American interests.
