What is included in the integumentary system?
skin, hair, nails, sweat glands
What does skin do?
Protects, absorbs vitamin D, contains nerves
Layers (from topmost to deepest)
Epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis

Outermost and toughest layer, absorbs vitamin D

The middle layer, contains sweat glands, hair follicles, and sebaceous glands

Why do we sweat?
to cool us down (as water in the sweat evaporates, the surface of the skin cools.)
Purpose of hair?
Protection, temperature regulation
How to take care of your skin?
Wash it, eat healthy, drink water, protect yourself from the sun, use moisturizer when needed

What is another name for oil?
Sebum
Where are the sebaceous glands located next to?
Next to the hair follicles
How do pimples form?
Bacteria invade the shaft of the hair where the sebum duct is. The white blood cells then migrate into the duct to attack the bacteria, while the oil gets trapped inside it. This leads to a buildup in cells and leaves a bump on the skin.
