Multiculturalism

The existence of multiple cultures within a single country.

Cultural Identity

A part of personal identity related to ethnicity and how one sees their place in the world.

Critical Race Theory

A theory stating that race is a social construct and racism is embedded in society.

Racism

The process by which systems, policies, actions, and attitudes create inequitable opportunities based on race.

Individual Racism

Racism that occurs on a one-to-one basis.

Institutionalized Racism

Laws that discriminate against a particular cultural or racial group.

Implicit Bias

Unconscious attitudes or stereotypes about another racial group that may influence decision-making.

Intersectional Theory

• A theory stating that different identities interact

• and create a certain prejudice potential

• and discrimination.

Whiteness (in research)

• Research focused on understanding the dominant race in a country

• and how white privilege expresses itself.

Legislative Action

Laws that make it illegal to discriminate against people.

Contact Hypothesis

Suggests that spending time with people of different cultures will reduce racism, prejudice, and discrimination.
