Electroplating
is a process by which a plastic part is coated with a layer of copper, nickel, or chrome using
electrical deposition. The result is a glossy, durable, bright metallic finish. Because plastic does not conduct
electricity, parts must be precoated with a conductive material.
flocking
is a process by which short, fine fibers are applied to an adhesive coated surface for achieving a
soft, fuzzy feel. The fibers are applied electrostatically or mechanically.
In-mold decorating
is a process of applying graphics to a formed plastic part. First, a clear sheet of plastic is printed and thermoformed to match the contour of the final part. This part is inserted into the
mold prior to the injection of liquid plastic (in the case of injection molding), which bonds the sheet to the part.
labels
Information such as logos, instructions, or warnings can be printed on paper, plastic, or metal and attached to the surface of a formed part.
water transfer printing
is a process of adding a printed film coating to a formed substrate. An image is printed on a water-soluble film that is placed on the water's surface.
adhesive bonding
is the process of joining two or more parts by using an adhesive.
fasteners
such as screws, are often used to attach components to housings and for joining multiple housings. This method of joining allows parts to be disassembled for repair or recycling.
snaps
are molded in features that allow parts to join by interlocking
ultrasonic welding
is the process of joining parts using ultrasonic vibration to create friction between two parts, causing them to heat up, melt, and fuse together.
