Cardinal temperatures are the minimum, maximum, and optimal temperatures at which an organism grows best.

What is an obligate aerobe?
Requires atmospheric oxygen (20%) to grow.
What is a microaerophile?
Requires oxygen but at lower concentrations (2–10%).
Ex: Helicobacter pylori.
What is a facultative anaerobe?
Does not require oxygen but grows better when it is present.
How do aerotolerant anaerobes and obligate anaerobes differ in their relationship with oxygen?
—> Aerotolerant anaerobes:
Grow with or without oxygen
oxygen doesn't harm them.
—> Obligate anaerobes:
Grow only when oxygen is not present
it is toxic to them
