Potable water
Potable water is safe for drinking and meets quality standards. It undergoes treatment to remove pathogens.
Screening and Grit Removal
Large materials (e.g., plastic bags, twigs) are removed by screening. Grit (small particles) settles out.
Sedimentation
Water stands still in a tank, allowing heavier solids to sink (forming sewage sludge) and lighter matter (effluent) to float.
Aerobic Digestion
Effluent is treated with aerobic bacteria to break down remaining waste.
Anaerobic Digestion
Sewage sludge is broken down anaerobically by bacteria, releasing methane gas as a byproduct.
