Bone Tissue
A type of connective tissue that includes compact bone and spongy bone.
Compact bone
A dense and strong type of bone tissue that forms the outer layer of bones.
Spongy bone
A lighter and less dense type of bone tissue found inside bones.
Connective Tissue Proper
A category of connective tissue that includes loose and dense connective tissue.
Loose connective tissue
A type of connective tissue that holds organs in place and attaches epithelial tissue to other underlying tissues.
Dense connective tissue
A type of connective tissue characterized by closely packed fibers, providing strength and elasticity.
Hyaline cartilage
A type of cartilage with a firm matrix and collagen fibers, serving as a resilient cushion.
Elastic cartilage
A cartilage that contains many elastic fibers, providing flexibility while maintaining shape.
Fibrocartilage
A tough type of cartilage that provides support and structure, found in intervertebral discs.
Neurons
Nerve cells that generate and transmit nerve impulses.
Neuroglia
Supportive cells in the nervous system that insulate, support, and protect neurons.
Extracellular matrix
The non-cellular component present within all tissues and organs, providing structural and biochemical support.
Chondrocytes
Mature cartilage cells that reside in lacunae within the cartilage matrix.
Fibroblasts
Cells that produce collagen and other fibers found in connective tissue.
Adipocytes
Fat cells that store energy and provide insulation.
Reticular fibers
Thin fibers that form a supportive mesh in organs and tissues.
Ground substance
The fluid or gel-like material surrounding the cells in connective tissue.
Transitional epithelium
A type of epithelium that can stretch and is found in urinary organs.
Dendrites
Structures on neurons that receive signals from other neurons.
Axon
The long, thin structure that transmits electrical impulses away from the neuron's cell body.
