Musclaíonn an dan trua ionam. Tá trua agam don fhear agus don bhean.
The poem opens pity in me. I have pity for the man and the woman.
Tá gra acu dá cheile, ba mhaith leo a bheith pósta. Ach, tá dearchaí difriúla acu ar an bpósadh.
The have love for each other, they would like to be married. But, they have different outlooks on marriage.
Bhí saol tradisiúnta ag teastáil ón bhfear. Ba mhaith leis a bheith ina chonaí ina áit dúchais lena bhean cheile agus lena pháistí.
The man wanted a traditional life. He would like to be living in his native place with his wife and children.
Ach, ba mhaith leis an mbean go mbeadh sí neamphspleach. Ba mhaith leí dul ar laethanta saoire freisin.
But, the woman would like her independence. She would like to go on holidays too.
Tá trua agam dóibh mar níl siad oiriúnach dá cheile. Mar sin, scarann siad ona chéile.
I feel pity for them because they are not suitable for each other. Therefore, they separate from each other.
