What happens during Prophase?
Chromatin fibers condense into chromosomes, the nuclear membrane breaks down, and a spindle of microtubules forms from centrioles (animals only).
What occurs during Metaphase?
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell, and spindle fibers from centrioles attach to centromeres.
What key event defines Anaphase?
Spindle fibers contract, pulling sister chromatids apart, and chromosomes move to opposite ends of the cell.
What reforms during Telophase?
Nuclear membranes reform at each pole, chromosomes unwind, and the spindle disappears.
What happens during Cytokinesis?
The cell divides, resulting in two daughter cells.
