What is DNA a molecule of?
nucleic acid
What is DNA made of?
monomer subunits called nucleotides
What are the components of a nucleic acid? What are the five nucleotides? How do they
bond to each other?
Nucleic acid are polymers made of monomers called nucleotides. The five nucelotides are Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, Thymine (DNA), and Uracil (RNA).
Explain how two strands of DNA are oriented in respect to each other. Know how to
determine what the compliment would be to a given DNA sequence
The strands are antiparallel: Oriented in different directions, with one upside down relative to its
complement
What is the “central dogma” of molecular biology?
What are the steps of transcription and translation? Make sure to know what happens in
each step for both processes. Where does each process occur in the cell?
