Ossification center
the area of a bone to start to form new bone tissues
Mesenchyme
A unspecialized loose CT in the embryo capable of transforming to
different CT (Bone, cartilage, Blood and lymph tissue)
Woven Bone
first type of bone that osteoblasts form during ossification; Weak due
to random distribution of collagen fibers
Lamellar bone
mature bone; Osteoclasts break down woven bone to build LB. Has
Lamellae.
Intramembranous ossification
Formation of bone from mesenchyme; Commonly on
flat bones
Endochondral ossification
Formation of bone from a cartilage model
Fontanels
are large, membrane-covered spaces between the developing skull bones
that have not yet been ossified
Bone Remodeling
ongoing replacement of old/ injured bone tissue by new bone
tissue.
Bone Resorption
Removal of minerals and collagen by osteoclasts
Bone deposition
Addition of minerals and collagen fibers by osteoblasts
