Uniform Motion
Motion where successive images of a rider are the same distance apart, indicating constant velocity.
Acceleration
A rapid change in speed.
Free Fall
Motion determined by gravity alone.
Motion Diagram
Marking the position of an object at successive times to analyze motion.
Representing Position
Using an x-axis to analyze horizontal motion and motion on a ramp, with the positive end to the right, and a y-axis for vertical motion, with the positive end up.
Position-versus-time graph
On a position-versus-time graph, a faster speed corresponds to a steeper slope.
Uniform Motion or Constant-Velocity Motion
Straight-line motion in which equal displacements occur during any successive equal-time intervals.
Instantaneous Velocity
An object’s velocity—a speed and a direction—at a specific instant of time t.
Acceleration
The ratio of the change in velocity to the change in time.
Free Fall
Motion where the free-fall acceleration always points down, and no other forces are in effect.
Problem-Solving Approach
A four step method that breaks down problem solving into smaller steps consisting of Strategize, Prepare, Solve, and Assess.
