Lesion
Mark on the skin that indicates an injury or damage that changes the structure of tissues or organs
Primary Lesion
Lesions that are different color than the color of the skin
Bulla
Blister containing a watery fluid
Macula
Flat spot or discoloration of the skin
Papule
Small elevation on the skin that contains no fluid but may develop pus
Pustule
Forms from a papule when dead white blood cells accumulate in it
wheal

Secondary skin lesions
Characterized by piles of material on the skin surface, or by depressions in the skin surface
Excorciation

Ulcer
Open lesion on the skin or mucous membrane of the body, accompanied by loss of skin depth and possibly weeping of fluids or pus
Comedo
A hair follicle filled with keratin and sebum
Open Comedo
Known as a blackhead. sebum has been exposed to the environment
Closed Comedo
Known as a whitehead, when the follicle is closed and not exposed to the environment
Milia
Benign, keratin-filled cysts that appear just under the epidermis and have no visible opening resembling a small sesame seed
Acne
Skin disorder characterized by chronic inflammation of the sebaceous glands from retained secretions
Rosacea
A chronic condition that appears on the cheeks and nose. Factors that aggravate are spicy foods, caffeine, alcohol, extreme heat and cold, or sunlight or stress
Sebhorrheic
Characterized by inflammation, dry or oily scaling or crusting/ itchiness
Anhidrosis
The condition can be life-threatening and requires medical attention. The inability to sweat
Bromidrosis
Severe cases require medical attention. Foul smelling perspiration
Hyperhidrosis
Excessive sweating, caused by heat or general body weakness
Conjunctivitis
Known as pinkeye, a common bacterial infection of the eyes
Eczema
Inflammatory, uncomfortable, and often chronic disease of the skin. Characterized by moderate to severe inflammation, scaling, and sometimes even itching
Herpes Simplex
A contagious, recurring viral infection often presents as a fever blister or cold sore, although many people have no symptoms. Blisters appear on the lips, nostrils, or other part of the face, and the sores can last up to three weeks
Impetigo
A contagious bacterial skin infection characterized by weeping lesions and usually caused by a staphylococcus bacteria
Psoriasis
Characterized by red patches covered with silver white scales
Leukoderma
Characterized by light, abnormal patches
Nevus
Small or large malformation of the skin due to abnormal pigmentation
Stain
An abnormal brown or red skin patches, having a circular or irregular shape
Vitiligo
A hereditary condition that causes hypopigmented spots
Keratoma
Callus, acquired, superficial round, thickened patch of epidermis
Basel cell carcinoma
Most common and least severe skin cancer
Squamous cell carcinoma
Characterized by scaly red papules or nodules, survival rates depend on the stage of diagnosis
Malignant Melanoma
Characterized by black or dark brown patches on the skin that may appear uneven in texture, jagged, or raised. survival rate of 66% once it reaches the local lymph nodes
Acne
Main food source is fatty acids
Contact dermatitis
An inflammation of the skin caused by having contact with certain chemicals or substances
Sensitization
An allergic reaction is created by repeated exposure to a chemical or a substance
Verruca
Hypertrophy of the papillae and epidermis
