‘Once there was a boy’
Once there was a boy
‘Everything that happened because it happened’
Every single second of every single minute of every single hour of every single day, month, year and decade to come
‘Precisely 8:30AM’
Good morning Kevin, ready to go?
‘-and counting’
Alright, you jump on when you’re good and ready
‘But he doesn’t quite get it’
How are you this morning Kevin?
‘Thank you for asking, Mr. Wilkinson’
Jolly good
‘And that was that’
Breaking News! (1)
‘A fire is clearly engulfing the top of one of the towers’
The huge plume of smoke, it is visible for miles
‘But there is no denying the enormity of what has happened’
Breaking news! (2)
‘Some believe that this was a deliberate act of violence’
A totally unexpected and unprovoked act of aggression
‘People are just stunned and staring into disbelief, and who can blame them’
Breaking news! (3)
‘We are still trying to determine what exactly-’
We are receiving footage right now, as it is happening
‘It is a scene of utter devastation’
While details remain kind of sketchy
‘And everything has just stopped’
The traffic’s at a standstill
‘There are enormous queues for the few pay phones still in operation’
As you can well imagine, rescue teams are finding it difficult to reach the source of the fire
‘The fire/we suspect, is making it impossible to reach the upper floors’
News Just In! (1)
‘News Just In!’ (1)
An explosion occurred just minutes ago atop the North tower of the world trade center, trapping people in the upper floors. Gaping holes are visible on two sides-
‘Hearing a loud ‘boom’ and seeing smoke’
This is the scariest scene I have ever witnessed
‘This morning, no one could have predicted’
Something - something big - hit the building
‘No confirmed reports about the type of plane, its actual size’
There is little else we can add at this stage
‘There is little else we can add at this stage’
News Just In! (2)
‘A large commercial jet’
Possibly a 737
‘There were reports of it losing control before it hit the tower’
News Just In! (3)
‘Clearly this was no accident’
It is without a doubt, a terrible act of deliberate devastation
‘We cannot even begin to count the human cost’
There are reports of people falling or even jumping from the towers
‘One after another’
There is little anyone can do but look on in abject horror
‘How desperate things are up there’
Down here, people are just looking up transfixed
‘It is impossible to look away. Just impossible’
News Just In! (4)
‘News Just In!’ (4)
The South tower has collapsed
‘It went down’
In an instant
‘It’s spread everywhere’
It’s so thick that you can’t even see the site of the World Trade Center just blocks away. We’re all just choking on the dust
‘People are/running’
Running/as far as they can from the smoke and debris
‘There’s no way to escape it’
On the streets
‘On the streets’
Everything is black! (End of Act 2)
‘The word Afghanistan is comprised of 11 letters’
George W. Bush, the US president, his name also has 11 letters
‘The tragedy occurred on September 11 or 9/11’
9 + 1 + 1 = 11
‘911 is also the emergency number in the US’
9 + 1 + 1 = 11
‘Who was enthralled by the universe’
By all that it could do
‘Because the boy knew all that the universe could do’
And that made all the difference!
‘And that made all the difference!’
To both the boy and the people around
‘But he didn’t really mind’
Most of the time, it didn’t matter much
‘He had to do things differently from other people’
And that didn’t bother him too much. He was quite happy to do it
‘The boy made a mistake’
A terrible mistake
‘And about how different he was’
Because the terrible thing that happened, well, it affected many, many people
‘It was deafening’
He knew what he’d done was terrible, but he couldn’t do anything
‘And more than a little dazed’
And he couldn’t do anything
‘And his world’
But he knew that he had to wait for the noise to go away, subside
‘But all he could do now was wait’
It was beyond him to do anything more
‘One day, he would fix things in his own small way’
One day, he would - because little things matter
‘But right now’
For the moment
