LAV SMOKE DETECTOR & FIRE Procedure

  1. Carefully feel different areas of the door (with the back of hand) to estimate heat intensity & location of fire.

  • If LAV is locked - knock & ask PAX to step out. Use discretion & do not embarrass PAX. Silence cabin alerts if possible when time permits. Notify FFA, who will notify PIC.

  • If door is cool - carefully open door, check for fire & extinguish if needed.

  • If door is hot - keep door closed & use crash axe to make a hole (or cautiously crack open door open just enough to discharge the extinguisher), extinguish fire. Continue to monitor until red indicator light on smoke detector or indicator on CAP clears.

  1. Smoke detector will reset & become sensitive to smoke again once smoke is no longer detected.

  2. Fill out IF Incident Report.

What is Sterile FD?

Communication between FD & FA is restricted to safe operation of A/C & emergency situations. Non-safety information is prohibited.

FD is NOT sterile during lengthy ground holds when A/C is not moving or while at cruise below 10,000 ft.

787 - Doors Preflight

  1. Appropriate lighted signs & placards are present & in good repair.

  2. Safety Strap is fully retracted.

  3. Window is set to clear. No blue LED.

  4. Door Locked Indicator is green when door is closed & locked.

  5. Verify door is DISARMED (3-point check).
