Accessory Gearbox (AGB)
Provides a mounting surface and mechanical drive for accessories of the AGT-1500.
Location: Module of the AGT-1500.
Air Handling Unit (AHU)
Combats heat generated by the electronics. NOT A CREW A/C.
Location: Forward the GPS
Ammunition Data Link (ADL)
Provides the FCS the capability to communicate with the Advanced Kinetic Energy (AKE) and the Advanced Multipurpose (AMP) smart main gun rounds.
Location: Mounted underneath the main gun.
Analogue Input Module (AIM)
Converts analog signal into digital data for fault reporting. Provides power to various components. Provides information to the screens.
Location: LRM mounted inside the HCU and the TCU
Automotive Gas Turbine 1500 (AGT-1500)
Turbine engine that can produce 1500 SHP @ 3000 RPMs.
Location: Engine of Abrams
Auxiliary Hydraulic Pump (AUX)
Provides limited hydraulic pressure if the main hydraulic pump is not operating.
Location: Mounted in the sub-turret near the Hydraulic Resevoir.
Auxiliary Power Unit (APU)
Provides electrical power to charge and enable continued operation of the vehicle sub-systems when the engine is not running.
Location: Left rear of the Hull
Battery Monitoring System Control Unit (BMSCU)
Capable of monitoring the parameters of each battery within sets, consisting of: voltage, state of charge, temperature, time, and state of health.
Location: Mounted in the sub-turret next to the bilge pump.
Battle Override Handle (BOH)
Controls the BOV
Location: Mounted to the right of the driver next to the driver’s drain valve handle.
Battle Override Valve (BOV)
Provides manual throttle if DECU does not provide signal to the EMFS.
Location: Mounted to the EMFS
Binocular Image Control Unit (BICU)
Provides the TC/Gunner with thermal images provided by the TRU. Viewable in the GPS through the monocular lens or in the Biocular lens on the face of BICU.
Location: Mounted to the right of the GPS below the TRU
BMS Shunts
Provides battery parameters of each battery to the BMSCU.
Location: Located in the battery box to connect to each set of batteries.
Built In Test (BIT)
Diagnostics are performed in the Fault Management System to identify faults within the components.
Location: Found in the diagnostics mode
CANT Unit
Measures the lateral tilt of the turret and provides an input for the FCS when the vehicle is stationary, in both normal and emergency mode.
Location: Left side of the GPS-E mounted on the Turret ceiling
Commander’s Control Handle Assembly (CCHA)
An electro-mechanical device that translates input mechanical movements of its handle into proportional electrical signals, controls Gun/Turret movement as well as CITV.
Location: Mounted right of the commander
Commanders Display Unit (CDU)
Provides vehicle interface to the commander.
Location: Commander’s station
Commander’s Independent Thermal Viewer Servo Electronics Unit (CUTV SEU)
Provides interface, power, and control for the AZ drive signal to the CITV assembly.
Location: Below the radio rack, next to the Recording and Simulation Unit (RSU)
Commander’s Independent Thermal VIewer Sight Assembly (CITV SA)
Provides the commander with a 360-degree thermal view, independent from the turret tracking targets and target designation.
Location: Mounted above the radio rack
Remote Switching Module #1 (RSM)
It acts as a CB that controls power for various components in the hull.
Location: Left side of the driver, in the sub-turret, near the 2nd Shot Fire Bottle
Remote Switching Module #2 (RSM)
It acts as a CB that controls power for various components in the hull.
Location: Right side of the driver, mounted to the Hull wall next to the HCU
Remote Switching Module #3 (RSM)
It acts as a CB that controls power for various components in the hull.
Location: Right side of the driver, in the sub-turret, near the 1st Shot Fire Bottle.
Remote Switching Module #4 (RSM)
It acts as a CB that controls power for various components in the turret.
Location: Mounted to the right of the TC's armrest.
Remote Switching Module #5 (RSM)
It acts as a CB that controls power for various components in the turret.
Location: Loader’s station next to the TCU.
Remote Switching Module #6 (RSM)
It acts as a CB that controls power for various components in the turret.
Location: Below the Main Gun, Mounted on top of the MCU.
Cooling System Manifold (CSM)
Provides and controls hydraulic pressure to the VCSU and the AHU through the internal and external hydraulic lines.
Location: Right of the TDV, mounted to the turret’s basket.
Cross Over Relief Manifold (CORM)
Provides relief to the hydraulic system in the event of gun tube strike or any event which prevents the turret from traversing.
Location: Right of gunner’s feet
Crosswind Sensor
Measures wind velocity perpendicular to the gun tube at the vehicle's location for input in the ballistic solution data.
Centered rear of turret
Differential Pressure Switch
Is a switch used to measure pressure differences within the system.
Location: Various locations
Digital Analog Input/Output (DAIO)
Provides a digital interface between the MCU and miscellaneous turret signals.
Location: LRM mounted inside of the MCU
Digital Electronic Control Unit (DECU)
Controls engine operations, monitoring analog signals to/from the engine.
Location: Left side of the Driver, mounted below (NBCTCU)
Digital Video Splitter
Provides video feed from the LPCROWS to the MFOC’s tablet and CDU.
Location: Left of the MCU, mounted on the turret floor.
Drivers Control Display Panel (DCDP)
Provides vehicle interface for the driver.
Location: Driver’s station
Dual Axis Head Assembly
Provides Az as well as El movement of the GPS head mirrors to give a view of the target scene
Location: Exterior top of the turret, mounted to the top of the GPS, below the ballistic cover.
Dual Spectrum Fire Sensors
Detects heat and light on the IR spectrum in the event of a fire.
Location: Various locations.
Electro Mechanical Fuel System (EMFS)
Delivers fuel to the PTS actuator, IGV actuator, and 2-piece fuel nozzle in response to DECU commands.
Location: Mounted on the left side of the engine’s accessory gearbox.
