Cell Theory
The fundamental concept that all organisms are made up of cells; cells are the basic unit of life.
Phospholipid Bilayer
A double layer of phospholipids that makes up the plasma membrane of cells.
Amphipathic
A molecule that has both hydrophilic (water-attracting) and hydrophobic (water-repelling) parts.
Membrane Fluidity
The viscosity of the plasma membrane, affecting how substances move in and out of the cell.
Homeostasis
The process by which organisms maintain a stable internal environment despite external changes.
Glycoprotein
A protein with a carbohydrate attached, playing a role in cell recognition and signaling.
Cholesterol
A lipid that stabilizes the plasma membrane and affects its fluidity.
