Who am I?

I am not an opioid and I’m used to treat mild to moderate pain, but be careful….

I can cause renal damage if taken too much.

I should be taken with food to avoid GI upset.

NSAIDs - Ibuprofen

I am used to treat opioid dependency.

I cause little euphoria, but beware….

You still need to keep the antidote available!

Buprenorphine

I am an opioid agonist.

I’m not used for severe pain.

I’m usually used to treat cough, but sometimes used for mild to moderate pain

Codeine

I am used to treat an acetaminophen overdose and I smell like rotten eggs.

Acetylcysteine

I am used as abortive therapy for migraines and should be stopped if a patient develops muscle pain or numbness/tingling (paresthesia) in the fingers or toes.
