Question/Purpose
What do you want to know/find out?
Research
Find out everything you can about the subject
Hypothesis
Make a prediction as to what you think will happen
Experiment
Carry out an experiment to test your hypothesis
Analysis
Record your results and organise the data
Conclusion
Review your data to see if your hypothesis was correct
A scientist hypothesised that 'the hotter the temperature of a room, the more quickly students fall asleep.' She decided to test this. She set the temperature at 18 degrees and timed how long it took for students to fall asleep. She did these three more times, increasing the temperature by 2 degrees each time. To make it fair, each time there were the same number of students in the room and the teacher told each group the same thing. In the end, her hypothesis was correct
Experiment
Question: Do students fall asleep more quickly if the temperature of a room is hotter?
Independent Variable
The temperature of the room.
Why?
She had control over this variable and changed it which affected the dependent variable
Dependent Variable
The time it took for students to fall asleep
Why?
This variable was affected each time she changed the independent variable
Fixed Variable
Number of students and what the teacher said to them.
Why?
She kept these variables the same to make the experiment fair and accurate.
