Tissue
A collection of cells that work together to perform a specific function.
Epithelial Tissue
A type of tissue that covers the outside of the body and lines organs and cavities.
Connective Tissue
Tissue characterized by few cells and substantial amounts of extracellular matrix.
Microfilaments
The thinnest cytoskeletal type, composed of actin monomers, involved in cell shape and movement.
Microtubules
Cylindrical tubes formed from tubulin dimers, providing structural support and aiding in intracellular transport.
Intermediate Filaments
Fibrous proteins providing tensile strength, specific to animal cells, with no movement or transport functions.
Motor Protein
Proteins that move along cytoskeletal fibers, driven by ATP hydrolysis, enabling cellular movement and transport.
Basal Lamina
A layer of extracellular matrix to which epithelial tissues are attached.
Epidermis
The outer layer of skin, comprised mainly of epithelial tissue.
Dermis
The inner layer of skin, a type of connective tissue that supports the epidermis with nutrients.
