What are the functions of the Upper Airway?
Conductor of air, humidify and warm/cool the air, prevent foreign material from entering the tracheobronchial tree, and aid in speech and smell.
What are the functions of the nose?
Filter, humidify, and condition (warm/ cool air).
What makes up the Oral Cavity?
Vestibule, Tongue (intrinsic and extrinsic muscles), lingual frenulum, hard and soft palate, and palatine arches.
Tell me about the Pharynx
Attached to nasal cavity inspired air flows through, divided into: the nasopharynx, the oropharynx, laryngopharynx.
What is the Larynx?
Vestibule opening into trachea. Connects the upper airway to the lower airway. Protects the airway from aspirating food and liquid. Voice Box
