Soaked in hemostatic agent (thrombin for nuerosurgery and cocaine for nasal surgery) then topically applied to tissue to constrict blood vessels and help control bleeding
Used to help remove fluid from around delicate tissue by moistening with saline and placing onto neural tissue, suction can then be applied against it without damage to underlying delicate tissue.
