mechanism of action; ondansetron
Blocks 5-HT3 serotonin receptors located in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the brain & antagonizing of the vagal nerve that innervates the stomach & small intestines.

Prevents emesis r/t chemotherapy, radiation therapy, & post-op recovery
Given PO, IM, or IV
Complications
Headache, diarrhea, dizziness
Prolonged QT interval can lead to serious dysrhythmias (torsades de pointes)
Contraindications/precautions
Safety not established with pregnancy or lactation
