Two types of signaling

Local Signaling

Long Distance Signaling

Three types local signaling

Direct signaling: cells are directly connected to each other (e.g. gap junctions or plasmodesmata)

Paracrine signaling: (animal cells only) Messager molecules are released at a short distance

Synaptic Signaling: (nervous system) electrical signal will cause neuron to release neurotransmitters that will go to nearby neuron

One type of long distance signaling

Endocrine Signaling: (plant and animal) Hormones are released and travel through circulatory system till they bind to receptors in target cell/organ
