NADH
A common coenzyme in catabolic reactions, playing a critical role in cellular respiration.
NADPH
A common coenzyme in anabolic/synthesis reactions, important for the Calvin cycle.
Excited Electrons
Electrons that have moved farther out from the atomic nucleus and are no longer in their ground state.
Antenna Pigments
Molecules that capture light energy and transfer it to reaction centers.
Reaction Center Pigments
Pigments that can transfer excited electrons to nearby molecules.
Photosystems
Clusters of proteins and light-sensitive pigments embedded in thylakoid membranes, involved in photosynthesis.
Thylakoids
Internal folded membranes within chloroplasts that contain the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis.
Stroma
The fluid-filled space outside the thylakoids in chloroplasts, site of light-independent reactions.
Granum (Grana)
Stacks of thylakoids found within chloroplasts, facilitating the light-dependent reactions.
Chloroplast
The organelle in plant cells where photosynthesis occurs, primarily located in leaves.
