In March 1933, the Nazi's took no chances. Hitler tried to stop other political parties from carrying out effective campaigns. They controlled the news media, and opposition meetings were banned

a group of Nazi fighters who wore brown uniforms. They used violence to help Hitler gain power. Later, Hitler turned against them and many were killed.

In February 1933, the SA raided the communist party headquarters in Berlin and claimed to have found evidence that the communists were planning an uprising against the government

President Hindenburg issued a order which gave Hitler emergency powers to deal with the supposed communist threat

The emergency powers granted Hitler a turning point-they marked the first step towards making Germany a dictatorship

No because Hitler justified by saying that they emergency powers were necessary to protect the German people, this meant that he faced little opposition from the German public

Hitler used these powers to intimidate communist voters. The order also enabled the SA to round up and imprison nearly 4000 communist members
What happened In the March 1933 elections?
In the elections of March 1933, The Nazi Party won 288 seats but didn't have an overall majority so Hitler simply made the communist party illegal

a law that gave Hitler full power to make laws without asking the parliament which helped him become a dictator.

What was Article 48?
a part of Germany's old constitution that let the president rule by emergency laws without the parliament. It was used to deal with crises but later helped Hitler gain power.
How did the enabling act help him govern without parliament?
Hitler could now pass laws and amend the constitution without the Reichstag's consent
->other chancellors in Weimar used Article 48 to bypass the parliament so the new act may not have seemed that extreme to some Germans

a group of workers who join together to protect their rights and improve their working conditions, like pay, hours, and safety.
Labour Front meaning
a group that replaced trade unions. It controlled all workers and made sure they followed Nazi rules, but didn't protect their rights.

Hitler abolished trade unions and arrested union officials because he saw Trade unions as a threat because they had great influence over the working class
