A structure inside the nucleus that makes ribosomes.
What is the function of the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (Rough ER)?
Protein synthesis and modification ("assembly line"); it is "rough" because it's studded with ribosomes.
What is the function of the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (Smooth ER)?
Lipid synthesis and detoxification.
What is the function of the Golgi Apparatus?
It modifies, sorts, tags, and packages proteins for transport (the "shipping center" or "FedEx").
What is the function of Lysosomes?
They digest and recycle waste (like old mitochondria) and foreign invaders using enzymes (the "cleaning crew").
