they were noble souls, they not only possessed loving hearts, but brave ones
we were linked and interlinked with each other. i loved them with a love stronger than anything i have ever experienced
i can say i never loved any or confided
in any people more than my fellow slaves
we never undertook to do anything of importance
without a mutual consultation
we never moved seperatelt , we were one, and as much so by our tempers and dispositions
as by the mutual hardships to which we were necessaruly subjected to by our condition as slaves.
our confidence in each other was unshaken
we were resolved to succeed or to fail together after thhe calamity befallen us as much as before
i had a number of warmhearted friends in baltimore , friends i loved almost as idid my life
the thought of being seperated from them forevr was painful beyond expresion
it is my opnion that thousands would escape from slavery who now remain but for
the strong cords of affection that bind them to their firnds
my home was charmless . it was not home to me on parting from it i could not deel that i was leaving anything which i could have enjoyed by staying
. i looked for home elsewhere and was confident of finding none which i ckould relish less than the one which i was leaving
