Temperature
A quantity that corresponds to the warmth or coldness of an object, measured by a thermometer.
Thermometer
An instrument used to measure temperature.
Celsius Scale
Temperature scale where 0°C is the freezing point of water and 100°C is its boiling point.
Fahrenheit Scale
Temperature scale where 32°F is the freezing point of water and 212°F is its boiling point.
Kelvin Scale
Temperature scale starting at absolute zero, with the same interval as the Celsius scale.
Kinetic Energy
Energy that an object possesses due to its motion, which in the context of temperature refers to the motion of molecules.
Heat
Internal energy transferred from one substance to another due to a temperature difference.
Thermal Equilibrium
A state reached when two substances in contact no longer transfer heat between them.
Calorie
A unit of heat; it is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1°C.
Kilocalorie
A common unit of energy for foods, equivalent to 1,000 calories.
