Sleep Apnea
A condition where airflow during respiration stops for more than 10 seconds, leading to accumulation of carbon dioxide and depletion of oxygen in the blood.
CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure)
A treatment for sleep apnea that provides pressure on the airway to keep it open during sleep.
Narcolepsy
A sleep disorder characterized by excessive sleepiness and frequent daytime sleep attacks, often accompanied by temporary paralysis.
Rales
Crackling or rattling sounds heard during inspiration and expiration when lung passageways contain secretions.
Rhonchi
Low-pitched snoring sounds heard continuously during inspiration and expiration, indicating obstruction or secretions in the airways.
Wheezes
High-pitched musical sounds usually heard on expiration, associated with obstruction in the bronchi.
Stridor
A crowing sound heard on inspiration due to an obstruction of the upper airway, often linked to conditions like laryngitis.
Stertorous Respiration
A snoring sound associated with labored breathing, typically due to partial obstruction of the upper airway.
Systole
