Powerlessness

Subordinated groups have less access to social power than members of dominant groups to engage in the decision-making process that affects the course of their lives or that name the terms of their existence.

Exploitation

A steady process of the transfer of results of the labor of one social group to benefit another (ex: race and religion were intertwined as the justification for slavery in early America).

Marginalization

Entire categories of people are restricted from meaningful involvement in the social life of the community and nation, and thus subjected to acute economic deprivation and even annihilation.

Cultural Imperialism

Involves the universalization of a dominant group’s experience and culture, and its establishment as the norm.

Violence

A number of lives live in constant fear of random and unprovoked systematic acts of [blank] directed against them simply on account of their social identities. The intent of this xenophobic [blank] is to harm, humiliate, and destroy the "other.”
