transportation improvements, like canals, roads, and railways helped expand trade in the West. These improvements allow for western product regional specialization to be rapidly transported to the east for comsuption and profit.

The male had more alternative opportunities in agriculture, with it still being reasonably profitable at the time. Factory owners were able to get away with paying Women and children less.
