• through the progessive march of poltical socialism (Webb)

• we should control it and socialists run it in the common interest (Crosland)

third way

• not really socialist and gives former social democrats a way to feel good about becoming left-neoliberals

• common humanity is best helped through capitalist meritocracy with state giving little help to losers/ community

• the community should offer some charity to the losers so they don’t feel too bad about it (Giddens)
